GIVING BACK TO THE LAND
Together with South Downs National Park and Brighton & Hove City Council, we are working to create a sustainable an event as possible, and to give something back to the land we will pass through.
£1 from every paid entry for this event will go to National Trails to help maintain The South Downs and the trails that wind through them.
We will also be working to offer runners sustainable medals, as well as operating a vigorous on-site ‘leave no trace’ policy.
We will also be committed to supporting National Trails in their quest to get more people out running safely in the South Downs, finding the confidence to run off-road and plan their own routes.
We are working with Stanmer Park Estate to offer all finishers wooden medals made from trees that will be felled within the park.
These trees will be felled as part of the park’s regular maintenance, meaning we will be helping to reuse this wood and create something truly beautiful that you will treasure forever.
TREES NOT TEES
All those who sign up will have the chance to plant a tree with Trees Not Tees in place of receiving an official participant T Shirt. Simply opt in when signing up to get your very own tree planted. You will even receive a certificate and location of your exact tree!
LEAVE NO TRACE
In addition to the efforts we have made below, we would ask that you and your supporters are mindful of your impact on the city and countryside over Event Weekend and do your best to leave no trace. Please place your rubbish in provided bins and recycling bins. We are very proud of the city, seafront and countryside and hope that you will respect our local community whilst you are here and taking part in the event.
All finishers will receive water in an Aquapax 500ml carton.
- Aquapax cartons contain at least 75% plant-based material, including renewable sugar cane screw caps
- The whole Aquapax carton can be recycled into useful new products
- Every Aquapax sold contributes to the ‘Aquapax Communitree Project’, funding reforestation projects worldwide
We will be a cup-free event. Our Aid Stations will be set-up with Aquapax for runners. There will also be some HIGH5 Zero drink available in barrels. If you wish to take on HIGH5 Zero, you will need to bring a reusable, collapsible cup or refillable bottle with you.
All participants will be supplied with reusable kit bags for the baggage storage.
CONCESSIONS – FOOD/BAR
We have discouraged all of our concessions from using single use plastic at our event.
As a business, we recycle as much as possible, from our office based paper, cans and plastic to un-used finisher medals. We also invite a charity to collect and repurpose leftover clothing from the Start.
We have worked with Brighton & Hove city council to increase the services of the No 78 and No 79 bus routes on event day to encourage participants and spectators to travel the route via bus, reducing the number of cars on the streets.
We have also been encouraging people to make use of the trains and cycle paths from the city centre to Stanmer Park.
